How to find customers who are ready to upgrade
For a small SaaS, the easiest new revenue is often already paying you. A customer who keeps hitting a limit, adds teammates or keeps looking at your pricing page is telling you they want more. Most founders find out only when the customer writes in, or never, because the customer quietly works around the limit.
Signals that someone is ready for more:
- They hit a usage limit: seats, credits, projects, whatever your plans meter.
- They opened your upgrade or pricing page while signed in.
- They invited teammates, so the account is growing past one person.
- They're steady payers with steady use. Upgrade offers land better with healthy accounts than with struggling ones.
When you see it, offer the plan that fits. Make it specific: the plan that removes the limit they hit, or annual pricing if they've paid monthly for a while. Keep it to one short note from a person. It isn't a campaign.
How AO does it: connect PostHog (read-only) and tell AO which of your events mean "they want more", such as hitting a limit or opening your upgrade page. When a paying customer does that, Revenue › Customers marks them Expand. A pipeline trigger can move their deal to the stage you choose, forward only. Stripe shows what they pay today. Ask AO to draft the upgrade note, then approve it, and it sends from your own Gmail or Outlook. Expansion is counted too: when a customer adds a subscription, their deal's value sums both.

Questions
What counts as "ready to upgrade"?
The PostHog events you choose to mean "they want more", usually hitting a limit or viewing your upgrade page, from a customer who already pays.
Does AO change their plan?
No. Stripe is read-only. AO tells you who's ready and drafts the note. The upgrade happens in your own billing.
Can I offer annual pricing instead?
Yes. Add it as an offer, and Ask AO drafts from your offers. It flags any offer that isn't in your list.
