Half of contractor websites give homeowners no way to book or get a reply after hours.
We opened the home pages of 462 roofing, remodeling, electrical, plumbing and HVAC companies in 14 US metros and looked for one thing: can a homeowner who writes at 9pm book a time or get a reply without a phone call being answered?

One visit to each public home page, robots.txt respected, no forms filled in, no calls. Companies came from public search results in 14 metros and 5 trades; 552 were tried, 462 could be read. "After-hours way" means online booking, or chat or text on the page. We counted what each home page shows. Shares are of the 462 sites we could read, rounded to the nearest percent.
